How does Brivio & Vigan\u00f2 monitor emissions?<\/em><\/h2>\n[\/nectar_highlighted_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]The consumption produced by Brivio & Vigan\u00f2 is divided between direct emissions, defined as scope 1<\/em>, and indirect emissions for the purchase of electricity, defined as scope 2<\/em>. In the specific case of the data collected regarding 2022, the direct scope 1<\/em> emissions refer to the consumption of diesel fuel to power the Group’s own fleet and natural gas, used for the heating systems of the various plants, as well as for the commissioning of the trigeneration plant present in the Pozzuolo Martesana facility. The latter is in fact fuelled entirely by natural gas, consumption of which has been converted into CO2 and counted; on the other hand, emissions relating to the production of electricity, heat and refrigeration from the trigeneration system have not been counted, as they are nil since they derive from the start-up of the system by means of natural gas alone.
\nIn turn, indirect scope 2 emissions have been calculated using two different approaches, location based and market based, following the indications of one of the most authoritative international sources on the subject, the “GHG Protocol Scope 2 Guidance”. The location based method involves calculating emissions from electricity consumption by applying national average emission factors for the different countries from which electricity is purchased by the company. In the case of the Brivio & Vigan\u00f2 Group, the countries considered are Italy and Spain. The market-based method, on the other hand, requires considering the emissions that result from the purchase of electricity by considering specific emission factors reported by energy suppliers. In the situation where, as in the case of Brivio & Vigan\u00f2, the electricity supplier does not specify the market based factor, the European Residual Mix18 can be considered as the factor. For both methodologies, location based and market based, an emission factor of zero is attributed for procurement and generation of electricity from renewable sources as far as scope 2<\/em> is concerned. In the case of the Brivio & Vigan\u00f2 Group, therefore, the energy generated by the photovoltaic plants and the trigeneration system produced no emissions except for the natural gas needed to operate the trigeneration system. The Brivio & Vigan\u00f2 Group thus produced a total of 29,805.3 tons of CO2 and scope 1<\/em> direct emissions during 2022, emitted as a result of fleet operation and natural gas use. Counting the indirect scope 2<\/em> emissions attributable to the company, with the two different calculation methods just discussed, it produced emissions totaling(scope 1 + scope 2<\/em>) 31,410.0 tons of CO2 and following the location based method, while a total of 32,532.8 tons of CO2 and following the market based method. Compared to fiscal year 2021, there is a slight decrease in scope 1<\/em> GHG emissions of 3 percent as a result of a slight decrease in consumption.
