Brivio & Viganò renews its commitment to the environment with photovoltaic and trigeneration systems
The sector in which the Brivio & Viganò Group operates—logistics, and more specifically freight transport—is relatively lacking in sustainability strategies and corresponding actions. Through its Sustainability Report, Brivio & Viganò has sent a strong message to the market regarding its commitment to sustainability, particularly environmental stewardship.
In recent years, the Group has launched several projects and investments aimed at reducing its environmental impact. Initiatives have been implemented to lower energy consumption across the Group’s facilities, including offices and warehouses. A photovoltaic system composed of two modules, each with a capacity of 200 kWp, has been installed to power the headquarters in Usmate Velate. This system not only supports lighting but also heating and cooling systems. Its installation enabled the company to save the equivalent of approximately 600 barrels of oil in its first operational year.
At the Pozzuolo Martesana facility, both a photovoltaic system and a trigeneration module for the combined production of electrical, thermal, and refrigeration energy have been installed. The trigeneration system, operational since 2020, underwent expansions in 2023 and now generates up to 2 MWh of energy. While the photovoltaic system at Usmate Velate produces excess energy relative to the facility’s needs, the photovoltaic system at Pozzuolo Martesana consumes all the electricity it generates.
The trigeneration module, powered by natural gas, produces energy for three distinct uses: electricity, heating, and cooling. All thermal and cooling energy generated is consumed internally. However, not all the electricity produced by the system is used internally. The surplus—amounting to 378,338.2 kWh—was sold externally.
